A note from Eva, our founder.
I studied design, but my first job after graduation was behind a reception desk in Sydney.
At the time, paying rent felt more urgent than finding my creative path. Around me, conversations revolved around finance, property and sensible careers. I wasn’t yet confident enough to insist that design could be mine.
Still, I kept looking.
After work, I read design journals, wandered through galleries and lost entire afternoons in vintage shops. I noticed proportions, textures and the way light changed a surface. Even when my working life had little to do with design, my eye never stopped practicing.
Then, on a visit to China, a friend suggested a trip to Shanxiahu, a pearl town in Zhuji, Zhejiang.
I went thinking I might find something beautiful to bring home.
I stayed for an afternoon that would change the direction of my life.
An Afternoon Among Pearls
There were pearls everywhere: in shops, in trays, in the hands of people who had spent years working with them.
Watching freshly harvested pearls being examined, I began to notice how differently each one caught the light. Some had a soft, quiet glow. Others revealed something more layered as they turned.
I asked whether I could choose a few myself.
“Do you know how to choose?” the craftsman asked.
“No,” I said. “But I know what looks beautiful.”
I spent the afternoon sorting through them.
Size and roundness were only part of what drew me in. I kept returning to a particular luster, a delicate overtone, an unexpected shape. Certain pearls held my attention longer than others.
For the first time in years, the way I saw things felt useful.
My design education had given me something I had underestimated: the patience to look closely, and the sensitivity to notice small differences.
Finding My Way Back to Design
Back in Sydney, I began a small pearl business alongside my reception job.
I selected pearls from Zhuji, made necklaces and bracelets, and shared them through social media. Gradually, people began to buy them. What stayed with me was how often customers spoke about the pearls themselves—their character, their light, the feeling of finding something personal.
As orders grew, I brought together a small team. We continued making trips to select pearls ourselves, building relationships with experienced suppliers and refining our approach.
Today, that same attention guides SEVENERA.
We look carefully at luster, overtone, surface and proportion. When selecting a pair or a strand, we consider how the pearls belong together. When creating a piece, we think about its balance, its movement and the person who will wear it.
The quiet work behind a finished jewel matters to me: the comparisons, the questions, the small decisions that are easy to overlook.
I once thought a creative career had to begin with someone offering me a design job.
Instead, mine began with an afternoon spent looking closely at pearls.
SEVENERA grew from that afternoon—and from the belief that a thoughtful eye can bring something meaningful into another person’s life.

The Meaning of SEVENERA
SEVEN is a reminder to give beautiful things time.
ERA speaks to a passage of time: a season of growth, a chapter in a life, a moment we choose to remember.
Together, they express something personal to me. Beauty can develop gradually. So can confidence, purpose and a sense of where we belong.
SEVENERA honors that process through pearls chosen for their individual character, and jewelry made to become part of your own story.
Our Approach to Pearls
SEVENERA is a private pearl atelier working with freshwater and saltwater pearls, including Akoya, South Sea and Tahitian pearls.
Through trusted suppliers in China and Japan, we select pearls with close attention to luster, overtone, surface quality and matching. Our design background informs how those qualities come together in a finished piece: its proportions, its balance and how it feels to wear.
We offer personal consultations, individual pearl sourcing and bespoke jewelry design. Many pieces begin with a conversation about your style, an occasion or someone important to you.
From the first selection to the final presentation, our intention is to help you choose with understanding—and find a piece that feels unmistakably yours.
